Masters Program: |
The Quaid-i-Azam University shall offer courses leading to the degrees of Master of
Science, Master of Arts, Master
of Business Administration and Master of Public
Administration in the subject provided in the schedule and introduced from time to time.
The minimum duration for completing the Master's degree shall be four semesters.
Applications for admission to various courses of study will be invited from all over the
Pakistan and admission will be made on the base of merit and regional quota.
Admissions are opened twice a year for Master's degree programs.
Admissions are given only on Self-Financed basis in
August (in selected subjects) while in December -January admissions are given
on Regular as well as on Self-Financed basis.The University shall call for these admission
applications through proper media each year.

- Candidate with Bachelor Degree requiring more than two years
intermediate or professional degree for example: B.Sc.
Engineering,/B.E./MBBS/B.Sc. Agriculture, B.Sc. Pharmacy, BCS Computer Science, B.ED., etc
are not eligible.
- Candidates who are more than 26 years
old shall not be eligible for admissions unless relaxation is granted by the Vice
Chancellor for special reasons on the recommendations of the Chairman.
- Candidates having obtained certificates/degrees from
Foreign Universities / Institutions should provide equivalence certificate and
conversion of Grades into marks from University Grants Commission, Islamabad/Inter Board
Committee of Chairman in case of Matric and Intermediate level certificates.
- Foreign students must route their
applications through the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan.
- Admission will be made on merit, subject to the
regional quota.
The Eligibility Criteria for Individual Courses is as
following:
ANTHROPOLOGY:
- B.A or B.Sc. (Home Economics)
BIOLOGY:
- B.Sc. with two of the following subjects:
Botany, Zoology, Chemistry.
- The department offers three specialization i.e. Plant Science,
Animal Science and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology for which the candidates may apply as
separate options.
- Independent merit list will be determined for each of these
specification and no change of discipline will be allowed afterwards.
- The candidates applying for Biochemistry/Molecular Biology
must have studied Chemistry at the B.Sc. level.
- Candidate with B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology are not
eligible.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION:
- B.A. or B.Sc. B.Com., BBA (B.Sc. Home Economics not eligible).
CHEMISTRY:
COMPUTER SCIENCE:
- Mathematics General or Mathematics A-course or Mathematics
B-course or 2-years B.Sc. degree in Computer Science (BCS with 3-years degree are not
eligible).
- For admission to computer Science, applicant will be required
to take an aptitude test and pass it with at least 40% marks. Only those who pass the
aptitude test will be considered for admission which will be determined purely on merit
basis without giving any credit to the test score. The test will be held in the Department
of Computer Science.
DEFENSE & STRATEGIC STUDIES:
- B.A. with one of the following subjects:
Political Science, Economics, History, Sociology, Geography, Psychology, International
Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication (B.Sc. not eligible).
EARTH SCIENCES:
- F.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics and B.Sc. with Mathematics
and one of the following subjects:
Physics of Geography or Statistics.
ECONOMICS:
- B.Sc. with Economics (B.Com. and BBA not eligible).
ELECTRONICS:
- B.Sc. With Physics and Mathematics.
HISTORY:
- B.A. with one of the following subjects:
History, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Journalism, Sociology, Philosophy,
Geography, International Relations.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:
- B.A. with one of the following subjects:
International Relations, Political science, History, Economics, Geography,
Psychology, Applied Psychology, Journalism, Philosophy, Sociology.
MATHEMATICS:
- Mathematics A-Course and Mathematics B-course or Mathematics
General with Physics.
PAKISTAN STUDIES:
- B.A. or B.Sc. (Home Economics).
PHYSICS:
- B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics.
PSYCHOLOGY:
- B.A./B.Sc. with Psychology as a major elective subject.
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION:
- B.A. or B.Sc., B.Com. BBA (B.Sc. Home Economics not eligible).
STATISTICS:
- Statistics with Mathematics A-course/Mathematics B-course/
Mathematics General.
P.G.D. IN COMPUTER SCIENCE:
(Computer Centre)
- A person holding Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/B.Engg)
from any Pakistani University or an equivalent degree from any other recognized
University with at least second division or an overall "B" grade shall be
eligible for admission.
- A person holding B.A./B.Sc. degree should have studied at
least one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics in
B.A./B.Sc.
PROFESSIONAL COURSES IN C.S:
(Computer Centre)
- A person holding Bachelor's degree from a Pakistani University
or an equivalent degree from any other any recognized University with at least second
division or an overall "B" grade shall be eligible for admission.

M.Phil Program:
Admissions are opened twice a year for this course normally in January and
August.The University shall call for this admission applications through proper
media each year. M.Phil program shall be open only to persons selected as Junior
Research Assistants by the University.To be eligible for selection as a Junior
Research Assistant, a candidate:
- Must have good character.
- Must have obtained 1st division in M.Sc./B.Sc.
- Should not have obtained 3rd division in B.A./B.Sc. or M.A.
/M.Sc.
- In case of a 3rd division in F.A./F.Sc. the candidate should
have obtained 1st division in both B.A./B.Sc. and M.A./M.Sc.
- Each JRL shall be selected on the basis of cumulative merit to
be determined from previous academic record and written and oral tests.
- The selection of each JRL shall be approved by the advanced
studies and research board after a candidate has qualified in the written and interview
conducted by the Selection Committee of the department concerned.
- The Selection Committee for each Department shall be
constituted by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Chairman of the Department.
The Eligibility Criteria for Individual Courses is as

BIOLOGY:M.Sc in any field of Biological Sciences from a
recognised University. Candidates holding MBBS/ DVM/B.Sc. (Hons). Agriculture with Ist
division may also be considered.
CHEMISTRY:Physical, Organic and Inorganic/ Analytical M.Sc.
degree in relevant subjects from any recognised University.
Candidates who have studied Mathematics in M.Sc. or
B.Sc./F.Sc. will get preference for admission in physical and Inorganic /Analytical
Chemistry.
DEFENSE & STRATEGIC
STUDIES:M.A/M.Sc. in Defence & Strategic Studies/ Security/
War Studies/ Political Science and International Relations.
EARTH SCIENCES:M.Sc. in Geophysics, M.Sc. in Geology with
specialization in Sedimentology.
ECONOMICS:M.A/ M.Sc. degree in Economics from any recognised
University. (M.A./ M.Sc. in agriculture Economics & Home Economics are not eligible.
ELECTRONICS:M.Sc. degree in Electronics from any recognised
University.
HISTORY:M.A./M.Sc. degree in History from any recognised
University.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:M.A. /M.Sc. in International Relations/Political
Sciences/ Defence & Strategic Studies.
Those engaged in teaching or research in the above disciplines
may also apply.
MATHEMATICS:M.A. /M.Sc. in Mathematics/ Physics or equivalent from
any recognised University.
PAKISTAN STUDIES:M.A./M.Sc. degree in Pakistan Studies from any
recognised University.
PHYSICS:M.Sc. degree in Physics from any recognised University.
PSYCHOLOGY:M.A./M.Sc. degree in Psychology from any recognised
University.
AMERICAN STUDIES: (Area
Study Centre)M.A./M.Sc. degree in U.S. Studies, International
Relations, Political Science, Defence & Strategic Studies and History or any relevant
discipline.

Ph.D Program: |
Ph.D program shall be open only to persons holding the following qualifications:
- An M.Phil degree or its equivalent degree in the relevant
subjects from a recognized University.
- A college/University teacher or a member of the research staff
of a research organization who has shown undoubted promise for research and holds
M.A./M.Sc. degree, may be recommended by the Admission Committee for admission to Ph.D.
program.
- After Successful completion of two semesters, a student
registered for M.Phil degree may be recommended by the Admission Committee to the Advanced
Studies and Research Board for transfer to Ph.D. program, provided that the student has
completed two semesters in course work, obtaining overall aggregate of 75%. Such transfer
shall be effective from the beginning of 3rd semester but the time spent by M. Phil.
students (course work) shall be counted towards residence requirement for Ph.D. program.
