The department of History was established in 1973 and offers program for M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph.D. These programs introduce the students to the richness and complexity of research, analysis, and understanding of the past in its political, social and cultural aspects. Special emphasis is given to historical methodology and historiography with a view to enable the students to comprehend and analyze the interaction of different forces on the events of history and to produce an objective account of the past.
          The Department has some of the best scholars in the discipline on its faculty. This is reflected not only in the high standard of teaching but also in their numerous books and articles published in national and international journals. The faculty members are regularly invited to international Conferences and Seminars.
