In view of the importance discipline in education, a Computer Centre was established in
early 1972. The increasing need of good computational facilities for the students and
staff had put new demands on the facility provided by the Computer Centre.
In 1973, Computer Centre, started its
teaching activities with several short term specialized courses and a Postgraduate Diploma
in Computer Sciences. With the evolution of computer technology, IBM System-360 installed
in early 1970s was taken replaced by NEC -610, Model 10 computer in October 1987, and with
the passage of time it became obsolete and its spares were not available, so it became out
of order. There was a great need of developing alternate arrangements to provide computer
facilities to the users. In this respect, IBM AS/400 Minicomputer along with
a printer and
a terminal was installed and made operational in 1996.This year another IBM AS/400 along
with a lab of 22 latest Pentium IBM computers is Installed and is operational.
Computer Centre is playing a vital role
in the academic activities of the University by making its students aware of the potential
benefits of the computers in their studies and research work. The Lab of computer is
equipped with the minicomputer terminals, 486 and 586 Microcomputers and facility for
Local Area Network. A campus wide network has been setup that opens up new opportunities
for students and staff. The Computer Centre offers PC-computing facilities to students and
also offers a one-year Postgraduate Diploma and six-month Professional courses. |
