The National Institute of Pakistan Studies established in 1983 as an autonomous institute took its roots as a department of the University. A Board of Governors that include eminent scholars manages it. It offers M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph.D. programs. Besides teaching, the institute also organizes training programs, extension lectures, workshops and seminars. In order to familiarize the students with the actual conditions of the people, it arranges study tours to different parts of the country.
